A family home in Thames Ditton, Surrey, was undergoing a new single-storey rear extension to convert a 1990’s built house into a modern contemporary open plan living area downstairs. The Upper floor rooms were redecorated, and two new bathroom suites were also installed. The family approached Luxe Smart Homes, before building work had begun, to ensure that while the renovation work was carried out, an infrastructure could be designed and installed so that in the years that followed the family could enjoy the many benefits of a Smart Home.
in the new open plan kitchen/dining/living area as well as in the front reception room. The client had already had positive experiences with Sonos speakers, so we chose the Connect: Amps to create three individual audio zones. Upon installation, the client could select music from their smartphones and listen to music across the downstairs of the property.
was installed into this project as per the client’s request. They had already seen the Control4 system work well at a friend’s home and wanted the simplicity of having all their home services in one easy to use control interface. Luxe Smart Homes installed an all in one remote control in the living area for the TV as well as an in-wall touch screen in the open plan living area. We also installed Control4 lighting for the open plan area, which allowed us to create different lighting scenes for different times of the day.
set-top box out of sight in the living room. We installed the Sky Q Silver set-top box in the data rack under the stairs and sent the signal directly to the TV in the living rooms with all the cabling concealed in the walls. This was achieved by installing a HDAnywhere 4K HDMI extender at both ends of the connection and the use of the Control4 remote controller to navigate through the Sky Q menu.
Nest Thermostats, Protect smoke alarms and Hello video doorbell was also installed to enable the client to be able to control from their smartphones their heating system, smoke alarms and visitors to the property before answering the door.
The property suffered from inferior 3G/4G mobile network signal, so having reliable Wi-Fi across the property was of paramount importance. Ubiquiti UniFi networking equipment was installed in the data rack located under the main stairs and connected four wireless access points across the property. This enabled the client to use Wi-Fi calling from their smartphones and seamless video call streaming using FaceTime and Skype to relatives abroad and colleagues at work.
We also located all the equipment we installed into a central location within the cloakroom, under the stair case, meaning that none of the technology was on show in the client’s home.
Having engaged in our services at the very beginning, before the building work had even started, we were able to design a system that met all of the client’s requirements and that fitted within the overall budget of the overall renovation.
During the build, we were able to work with all the other trades to ensure all our cabling was kept intact. We have since worked with the electrical contractor from this renovation on numerous other projects and can highly recommend them here.
Luxe Smart Homes were the last contractors onsite before the family moved back in just before Christmas. We also came back not long after the New Year to add the final keypad engravings to the lighting control system.
